Meanwhile, I have contacted Microsoft and they advised me to use Windows Defender. But that progrm will not open because I am using the Vipre program and I don't know how to uninstall Vipre. Can anyone help me with this issue? (I assume that I cannot open the Defender because of the incompatibility of the other program.). Hi, Which version of GFI Vipre antivirus program is installed in your computer?

You can go to Windows compatibility center and check for the compatibility of the anti-virus with Windows 8. Go through the link for your reference. If the version is not compatible then uninstall the antivirus. You can uninstall the anti-virus application from Control Panel. Follow the steps given here. Press the keys Windows key and X together. Select Control Panel.

Download Proprompter 4.0 Serial. Select Programs. Select Uninstall a Program under Program and features. You will get a list of programs installed, search for GFI Vipre Antivirus. Right click on that and select Uninstall.

You will get a warning message which says “Are you sure you want to uninstall scanner application?” Click on Yes. Reboot the computer. Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Now you can try enabling Windows Defender and check. Reference: Windows Defender and Windows SmartScreen fight viruses and other malware If the steps given above are not helpful, then you can contact GFI Vipre Antivirus for further assistance.
