This past week I replaced the gimbal bearing, along with all the bellows on my '87 Forester Phantom with an Alpha One outdrive. I took it for a ride for the first time today and there was a high pitch whirring noise around 2500 to 3000 rpm. As the rpms got higher, the noise would start to fade. In neutral it would make the same noise. I am pretty sure that the noise was coming from the new gimbal bearing. I greased the bearing after installing it.
